Cake cutting is part of every wedding celebration. Special emphasis is put on this activity because the decoration of the cake makes a big attraction. It is one of the centerpieces at the table. As soon as any guest enters the ceremonial hall, the first thing they set their eyes on is the wedding cake. So the cake is something you cannot treat as secondary in your planning.

In most cases, a professional caterer is contracted to design and bake the cake. But for budgetary and fun reasons, you may want to do your own cake. It is not a an activity reserved for the professionals only. Any one can do - even you.

Be modest with your design. Choose a design that will match your wedding theme and also keep you in budget. You can get ideas about designs from many cook books, bridal shows and even by shopping around. At this moment, you are not concerned about taste because the wedding cake is more of a decorative piece than food. You prime concern is elegance so sift through the various styles and choose one that is not too flamboyant nor too flat.

Get the right appliances. A wedding cake requires specialized equipment. You can have that from shops at a low price. The right piece of utensil will give you the right shape and design. Be very mindful about the shape. That is what everybody sees first before the design and decoration. It must fit into the regular shape used at formal weddings.

The topping and frosting requires delicate handling. The cake would have to stand rigid after hours of removal from the refrigerator. Take all the precautions to get it in that condition. Use high quality tops and icing that are from certified baking supply shops.
