Web Page Optimisation For Local Search Marketing

Expert Author B O'Brien

Simply creating a web page for a local business is not longer enough to attract customers online. Web page optimisation will be necessary for effective online marketing and advertising.

Optimisation of a web page means that the page itself and its content are tailored in such a way as to get noticed by the major search engines such as Google. More importantly it means that a business's web page will appear at or near the top of the list that appears when a potential customer runs a search for businesses in a certain area.

Being at the top of the list on web searches run in an area is vital for business because people are more likely to click on the business at the top of the list. This means that they will be more likely to do business with that firm. A business that wants to use a web page to attract local customers will need to optimize it to get it noticed in searches. There are some ways to do this some of which work and some of which do not.

Web Page Analyzers

There are a number of online tools called web page analyzers that will analyze a website and determine if it is properly optimized. These can tell a business how effective a URL is and if people are likely to click on it. Using such an analyzer could be a great way to start. The analysis provided by these services can be quite technical so a person will have to have quite a bit of web knowledge to use them.

Tailoring a Web Address

The first thing that needs to be tailored for local search optimisation is the web address. A web address that closely matches search will be more likely to come up in a search or close to the top of a list after a search. An example of this would be for Johns Tailors in Blackpool to use "Blackpool Tailors" as its web address. The business should do this because Blackpool Tailors would be far more likely to come up as a result in a web search for a tailor or tailors in Blackpool than Johns Tailors.

Another good way to do this would be for businesses to buy web addresses that list their kind of business and the name of their town or area and link them to their websites. This would make a business more likely to come up on web searches and increase its web rankings. Those starting a new business should consider choosing a name that is likely to come up first on search engines. This would be a cheap and effective kind of optimisation that could help a business get a good search engine ranking from the start.

Other Forms of Optimisation

Another kind of optimisation is to create large amounts of content that search engines will pick up and place it on a web page. One method of doing this would be to create a blog about the community or local business and place it on the blog. A gardening center could place a blog about local gardening on its webpage for example. Local web page optimisation is not necessarily hard all it takes is creativity and experience. The more optimisation a business attempts the more adept it will get at the process.
