We Are Now Living Longer So Age-Related Sight Issues Are Becoming More Common Place

The school for the blind provide a very specific type of service. They provide multiple services which include specialist education, specialist treatment, home care and health care for young people up to the age of eighteen. These schools provide a high standard of education and teaching for their pupils. Teaching in this manner also helps the child to develop some substantial footing in the world, making them more confident in life and how to handle real world situations. One in twelve people have suffered some form of serious sight loss by the age of sixty; rising to one in six by the age of seventy. Nowadays more people are living longer which also means that age related sight loss is increasing. In the UK the R.N.I.B. (Royal National Institute for the Blind) conducted many surveys, trying to work out its approach toward the elderly visually impaired, some of which include war blinded. They worked on many plans building up a broad network of resources that anyone can now get a hold of. These include braille books, talking books, audio descriptive television, braille press articles, specially made furniture and house-hold appliances and also benefits. Many elderly visually impaired will now be able to sit around and read all sorts of braille books without problem after receiving education from the school for the blind.

The introduction of braille press articles now helps many war blinded keep up to date with current affairs. These can be delivered to any elderly visually impaired person meaning they do not need to leave the house on their own and risk having an accident.

Whether it is braille books/novels or braille press articles the war blinded have many resources available to and easy to get a hold in this day and age, and no blind person should feel like they are in some sort of limitation. These resources are designed to help the visually impaired carry on with their lives like any other person and from a personal perspective I am glad these methods/resources are available.
