Ways to Keep the Honeymoon Stress-Free

Expert Author E. Sullivan

The wedding is over, and it went off without a hitch. So, how could the honeymoon go wrong? Surprisingly enough, there are lots of things that can happen to sour the sweetest of honeymoons. Whether you're having your honeymoon in Puerto Rico or your honeymoon in Bali, you can be assured you'll have a great experience by keeping just a few things in mind.

First of all, spending some time planning. It's great to decide ahead of time how much money to spend and the general itinerary. Both people will have different interests and things they want to see. Avoid conflict and stress by making sure everyone is on the same page.

If you can, try and space out the wedding and the honeymoon. Of course, this isn't always doable, due to family or work constraints. However, if you can, it is great to take a breather. The stress of the wedding day can be very tiring, and traveling immediately after can take its toll. Stress has a significant affect on health and mood, so beginning your honeymoon rested and ready is advisable. If you are leaving right away, make the first day or two strictly rest and relaxation. Lounge on the beach, in the room - maybe save the spelunking and hiking for the end of the trip.

Stay healthy! Drink lots of water and each vitamin-rich foods. Wedding stress take a serious toll on the body, so eating healthy foods and refreshing liquids will help alleviate stress. Refueling with vitamin-rich foods is important. If you're drinking greater amounts of alcohol on your honeymoon, be absolutely sure to also imbibe lots of water to prevent dehydration.

Don't get caught up in the temptation to over-plan. Trying to fit everything in is tempting, but not recommended unless you're on an extended trip. Agree ahead of time on the "can't-miss" activities, and then choose wisely among the remaining options. Never underestimate how tired you'll be after the wedding! The honeymoon is, first and foremost, a time for the couple to relax together.

Stay flexible. If you happen to find something fun to do while out and about, be spontaneous and give it a try. When you're exploring a foreign locale, you're bound to find plenty of neat things you didn't expect; don't be a slave to your established itinerary.

Finally, be patient with each other. After the stress of planning a wedding is over, often couples can feel overwhelmed with...free time. Patience is one of the key secrets to a successful marriage; use your honeymoon as a place to start exercising this trait. Don't let small annoyances grow into large disagreements. You and your spouse can use these tips for a relaxing honeymoon. Remember, this is your vacation!
