The basics of a water garden
Water gardens are very popular these days. They are also called aquatic gardens. Such gardens consist of a big pool populated with aquatic plants of various shapes and colors. Decorations like rocks, waterfalls and fountains added and well integrated with the landscape and the environment.
Here are some of the features of such plants -
These plants are submerged, living totally under the water. Sometimes there leaves or their flowers grow up to the surface but most of them preferred to remain below the water level. Generally these plants are kept in containers, at the bottom of the pond. Many of these plants are able to generate oxygen which is required for the fish living in the pond.
Then there are some marginal plants where there were warts are always under the water but most of their body is above the surface. And generally they are placed about 2 feet in the water in a pot so that their roots always remain in water and they are able to grow about the water level. Water Lily is an example of such plants.
Some plants are not attached to the soil and they are flowing freely on the surface of the water. While planning the water garden, such plants unusually considered as shades and they are useful to control the growth of algae. These types of plants grow very fast and they multiply in a short time. So you have to be careful about controlling their growth.
Besides plants, there are a number of other small creatures which can grow in your garden.
Snails - small snails are found in ponds having plants. Many fish-keepers buy such snails for their water garden. They do not have much nuisance and they will be useful for cleaning water. Apple snails are popular in fish-keepers.
Frogs - sometimes the bonds will attract frogs. They may not be harmful but there noise is annoying many times.
Turtles - these are bought by fish keepers to beautify their water garden. They grow very slowly but they eat a lot of waste and keep the water clean. Generally they prefer to stay at the bottom of the pond.
Snakes - the water snakes may be attracted due to the plants present in the pond. Many of them are not harmful but fish-keepers generally do not like them in the ponds!
Water gardens will generally attract predators like cats, snakes, and raccoons. All these predators are dangerous for your fish. The cost of the fish may not be significant but the loss creates a feeling of frustration in the mind. Set up your report that are reasonable height and keep the borders slim. Also the depth of the water should be kept more so that the fish can hide easily in case of emergencies.
