Not long ago, a gentleman from IL was considering starting a mobile oil change business, and he'd picked out a large company with a tremendous number of independent contractors running their own delivery vehicles. He pondered if this might indeed be a good mobile service business for himself. He was surprised when I mentioned attacking the business in conjunction with a mobile fleet washing business. Why you ask?
Well, because he himself was semi-considering this in the background and said he didn't mention this at first but he'd also been thinking here. No, he didn't mention it but, indeed, that's how we do it. And it is a natural progression, giving the customer the services they need, request, and desire. Come on he is from IL - Ray Kroc, Jack Taylor, Hugh Hefner, James Kelly, Sam Zell, on-and-on.
In this industry of mobile auto-transportation services we figure for every 5 fleet washing rigs we run, we automatically have enough customers for one oil change rig crew. Since selling mobile oil changing fleet contracts is much harder, having the "in" with the washing service first works for us - a slightly different business model, and strategy from other mobile oil changing companies.
The future entrepreneur from IL stated that he had in mind a large fleet account with a little less than 100 delivery vehicles, although each unit was independently owned and operated. You know similar to a taxi-cab company, or catering lunch coach business with all independents delivering people or products. Would that work out - he believed it would. Indeed, you have to admit that would be a very decent account.
However, you see, the washing business is quite competitive and you can't make a business off one account with 80-vehicles. After all, that's not even a quarter of one-days work. There are 30-days in a month, and 30-nights too. The fleet cleaning and contract power washing cleaning business is a 24/7 business, if one wishes to maximize profits and ROI and conquer and kill it.
Another issue would be the traffic issue between clientele in a market like Chicagoland, IL and let's not forget the rules and regulations there, or the labor supply which demands a better pay due to the cost of living as well. All this affects the bottom line and therefore must be taken into consideration before taking the plunge into a new business of this type in Illinois. So please consider all this.
