YouTube has released a new online video editor that will allow its channel owners to provide quick, basic edits to the movies they want to upload. The video editor will also allow you to add or change the background music using YouTube's commercial AudioSwap library of licensed songs. In addition, the video editor will allow you to create a video montage by clipping several short movie clips together. This video editor is geared primarily for people who create their videos on either Flip cameras or their mobile phones. This allows the user to upload their video to YouTube directly and then perform the edits online which will make the whole process much faster and more streamlined. However, the editing capabilities are still pretty basic but it might be due to the fact that this is their initial version and YouTube will be adding additional capabilities in the future as its usage becomes more popular.
Here are three ways you can use this software:
1) Use it to Edit Intros and Outros of Your Video
Too often YouTube's channel owners miss their opportunity to advertise their website or company because they fail to add initial slides or video with introductory information or website information. One workaround is to open a presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint 2010 and create a slide with the company information that you want to convey and with a timing of between five to seven seconds. When you save the file make sure to save it as a movie file. With the original movie already uploaded to YouTube's video editor. Take the short Powerpoint video clip you created and place it into the first section of YouTube's storyboard timeline. When you have completed that step, add your original video to the second window of the video editor's timeline. This will combine both videos to create a single flowing movie clip, otherwise knows as a montage. You can complete the same process with a second slide that contains your call-to-action and contact information. Proceed to add this second clip to the end of your movie, your audio clip and the whole process will be complete.
2) Use Royalty Free Tunes to Enhance Your Video
As previously mentioned, YouTube's video editor will also allow you to add or change the background music using YouTube's commercial AudioSwap library of licensed songs. If you are creating a Powerpoint Presentation as a movie or you have created a slideshow, you can search from YouTube's library of licensed audio by artist or genre and select the audio clip that best suits your video. Be aware though that if you include a music clip, it will replace the existing audio from your movie. You would need much more sophisticated video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro or others, to combine one or more audio tracks.
3) Shoot Your Video, Upload Once and Edit All On One Platform
The fact that you can perform all these tasks on one platform provides the convenience and ease of use to shoot your video, upload to the YouTube website and perform all these edits online a lot more seamlessly. While this program is relatively new, having been released in the second week of June 2010, it stands to improve the quality of many videos that are currently being uploaded making for an overall better viewing experience for your prospective customers or clients.
