Using Social Media to Promote an Ebook

Expert Author Joshua Black

If you are just getting started in the world of e-books or you already have an e-book, but you want to increase your sales, you may want to turn to social media to help you grow. Read on to find out more.

Social media is a marketing tool just like any other marketing tool, with one big difference- your interaction with your customers. Social media is not just a one-way conversation. It's a place where your customers can interact with you directly, putting the human side back in a process that is very distant from the end user.

When using social media you need to make sure that you are committed to the process, which can be very time consuming. Whether you are using Facebook or Twitter, or both, you will need to devote a certain amount of time each day to keeping the conversation alive.

Social media is never finished. It's a living marketing organism. You will need to make sure that you are creating valuable content for your customers, staying in contact with prospects that show interest and suggest links back to your products without coming across as a spammer.

As more and more businesses devote time to social media, the playing field will get more crowded. You will have to be the marketer that pushed your e-book through every social channel that you can, without losing customers. Create a "fan" page on Facebook, where people can show that they like your business in one step. This will allow you to send them updates through their page.

If you are using Twitter, which is a natural system for sending links, you can include links to any articles you have written (proves your credibility), as well as linking straight to your product. Make sure that your Tweets come across as personal instead of computer-scheduled, as most are.

When you promote your e-book through social channels you also have the added bonus that other people will like what you are selling and will spread your message along like wildfire. In order to get your fans to do that, you need to remind them that you have a great e-book out and would like their help in spreading the word. Many people will comply, but you have to ask. In social media, just like any other marketing medium, you are the one that has to initiate the process. Most people will not brag about your product if you don't ask them to first.
