Using Appropriate Text Format For SEO

Is there a way to take advantage of text format for SEO? There was a time when using specific formatting on your website was viewed as an extremely intelligent and reliable strategy. Now however many people are beginning to feel that this is no longer an effective strategy at all. The truth likely lies someplace in the middle for this SEO technique.

As we all know, SEO is constantly changing, growing and evolving. The techniques of a few years ago are not guaranteed to work today, and nothing is guaranteed to work in a few months from now. As a webmaster or small business owner your job is to stay ahead of the game by learning from the available information and staying ahead of the latest trends and changes.

What exactly do people even mean when they say text format for SEO? What they are talking about is a way of using specific formatting tags to make pieces of your content stick out as more important to the search engines. There are visual formatting changes that take place, but of more importance is the emphasis placed on the terms that are formatted.

The highest or most important level of formatting that you can use on a webpage is the main heading tag, h1 tag. This is where you put the title of your webpage, and whatever is in that tag is recognized as being the most important information that you have on any particular page. Therefore it makes sense that by including a keyword or two into your h1 tag you are then highlighting that keyword as extremely important to the webpage in question.

After the H1 tag there are many other heading tags, going all the way down to H6. After H2 or H3 these tags lose their value and they should not be bothered with. However, effective usage of H2 as subheads throughout your content can certainly pay dividends in the same fashion that the H1 tag does. Include an additional keyword or two in the h2 tags you have scattered throughout your page and you can boost your rankings even more.

Besides the headings that you use on your page, there are other text format for SEO options. One of these is marking a particular phrase, word or sentence as bold. However, the

<b> tag just makes text bold, without adding any significance. What does add value and meaning to a phrase or word is the use of the strong tag. This will produce the same bold look but the strong tag adds to it an implied meaning of importance as well.

When people talk about using text format for SEO, the above options are what they generally refer to. Have these been proven to be completely ineffective today? No, and it's likely they still play some kind of role in the ranking of your website in the search engines. Just remember to always stay ahead of the new trends and changes to the world of SEO and you and your website will succeed.
