Use Asphalt Roof Shingles for Protecting Your House
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Weather has the most worsening effect on the roofs of the house. The roof of a house is exposed to wind, hailstorms and is also under the direct exposure of sunrays. Roofs also act as an insulating agent for the house. One of the most common & popular form of roofing is Asphalt Roof Shingles and coverage by Asphalt Roof Shingles provide the much needed protection to the house from inclement weather conditions.

The amount of weather protection provided by the installation of the Shingles is done by asphalt roof replacement shingles. The degree of protection or coverage from the weather is determined from the installation of overlapped shingles. Asphalt Shingles are generally made in two forms i.e. organic mat and Fiberglass Mat.

Coverage of the Asphalt Roof Shingles

Organic Felt is coated with Asphalt to form organic mat roofing. Asphalt when coated on fiberglass results in Fiberglass Mat roofing. To provide ultra violet resistant protection, both these types of shingles roofing are covered with ceramic granules. The more shingles overlapped, more is the degree of coverage.

If there are not enough slopes to the roof, then Asphalt Shingles cannot be used. As such, the roof must be able to shed water. Organic Mat Asphalt Roof Shingle is expensive than the Fiberglass Mat Asphalt Roof Shingle. Both varieties of Shingles are available in a wide range of colors.

The advantages which Asphalt Shingle roofing enjoys over other forms of roofing are:

1. Although they are cheaper shingles, they do not compromise on level of protection for roofs.

2. There is a choice of 20 to 30 years shingles or even lifetime protection in some cases.

3. A homeowner can easily install them as they are easy to handle.

4. Since the Asphalt Shingles are widely available; repairs can be easily undertaken.

5. Not much maintenance is required for Asphalt Shingles.

Deciding upon which one to select - the organic mat or the fiberglass mat, is often supported by the climatic conditions. While organic mat shingles can curl with time, Fiberglass Shingles are more resistant to heat and will not curl with time. A professional can also be hired for installing either of the mats.

If one can understand the weather conditions their roof is going to face, one can easily make a correct selection of the right kind of Asphalt roof shingles. The cost of Asphalt shingles varies in different regions. One must check that the level of protection required by their house is properly balanced against the cost of the roofing material.
