Online is the place to find updates on the trucking industry. Since new changes are occurring everyday, it makes sense to find those updates.

According to online sources, the trucking industries now include more than 110 thousand carriers for hire. There are over 350 thousand independent truckers who own their own transportation and operate them daily.

According to national bulletins, the trucking industry produces around 200 billion dollars and the major companies account for about 30% or less of that statistic.

Truckers are often hired by industries to transport shipments or commodities. The truckers often use CMV or commercial vehicles to transport those shipments. Efficient operations are essential in the trucking industries because they rely on those profitable operations.

The larger industries have more advantages because they have control over account relationships as well as bulk fuel purchases, and fleet size. They also have more access to professional drivers. The smaller companies on the other hand can provide faster turnaround since they serve a smaller market in local areas.

These companies typically transport goods and generate around 135 thousand dollars annually from a single driver. The trucking industries are competitive. They often compete for cargo transportation, such as air, water, or rail and over-the-road trucking. About 70% of the industrial revenue is generated from long-distance trucking. Around 30% of the industrial revenue is generated from short runs.

Industrial hauls transports more than 10 billion tons of shipments or goods yearly. This makes up to around 60% of complete volume. Around 70% covers the US commercial freights and activities value.

The trucking industry is changing gears. In 2008, the US reported that the industry was down because diesel fuel prices soared. Around July, the price of diesel was up to nearly $5. This high cost of fuel cost truckers to slow down because fuel pricing caused some damage to freight volume, which made it the worst year for truckers and brokers. Some relief was noted in 2009.

What this means is that truckers and brokers has to make some changes to turn their freight volume around. We see some changes occurring now. Freight broker programs are coming out to help truckers and brokers find better fuel rates and take advantage of fuel tax cuts and refunds, as well as rebates.

From what we see online, the trucking industry is changing rapidly. Companies online are requesting people to start their own trucking companies or apply for trucking jobs. It appears then that the trucking industries are expecting to increase freight volume during 2010. By keeping up with the trends and updates online you can find out what the trucking industry is doing next.
