Article marketing is still a powerful way of building your online business. If you're able to put pen to paper and are happy to work hard to achieve the results you need, then this traffic technique could be just right for you. There are five steps to consider:
- What exactly is article marketing?
- What makes article marketing such a good choice?
- What is the power of back-linking all about?
- What is the purpose of your article?
- Where on earth do you start?
What is article marketing?
Article marketing allows you to get free targeted traffic, simply by writing short articles aimed at your target audience. You then submit these articles to various article directories and your content is read by interested readers. By having your link in the resource box at the end of every article, you can send traffic direct to your website.
What makes article marketing such a good choice?
When you submit an article to an article directory, or put it on your website or blog, Google will index this article. Webmasters are constantly on the search for new content and if they find your article, will post it on their web pages, increasing your chances of getting the article read by many more people. These articles can keep working for you, for months and even years!
What is the power of back-linking all about?
When you submit your article, either to the directories, or to blogs and other websites, these websites create a link from their site, back to yours. This is done by your full URL being visible on the original article, or from using anchor links. An anchor link contains your text as well as the URL, using relevant keywords.
By using back-links, these increase the visibility of your website. The more links you have, the better. It's also great to get back-links from sites which have a high Page Rank (ie, sites which are well established). Google takes into account the relevance and quality of these links too. By getting your article published on EzineArticles, for example, this is worth a lot as their Page Rank is 6.
What is the purpose of your article?
So, where are you actually sending people to when they have read your article and have clicked on your link? Is it relevant to what they have just read? Make sure your reader gets enough information from your article so that they will want to read more from you.
Where do you start?
If you're serious about article marketing, the very first step you should take is to open an account with EzineArticles. This is free and is quick to do. Make sure you read their Terms and Conditions, together with their Author Guidelines as they have a number of rules which you must adhere to,
Start with some keyword research, using the Google keyword tool, as keywords are critical to the success of your article. Make sure you research your subject well; check out forums to see what people are asking for help with, get information from the public domain. Read other articles on your subject in article directories and see how other writers have dealt with the subject.
Your title should be the most important part of your article. Keep it simple but intriguing and make sure it's keyword rich. Your article body should be fluid and well written. Use bullet points or short paragraphs to get your points across. Spread your keywords throughout the text. Make sure you fill in the resource box properly at the bottom of the article - give your reader a call to action; the whole point of the article is to get people to click through to your site, so make sure the resource box is short but snappy.
Never submit your article until you have checked and double checked it, both for spellings and grammar. Read it out aloud and see how it sounds. It should flow and not sound stilted. Check out other article directories to submit your articles to and don't forget to post them on your own websites and blogs.
Once you get a few articles accepted by the directories and see some traffic to your sites, you'll understand why article marketing is so powerful.
