Rock music is one of the most popular and most widely loved genres of music in the world. This is a form of music that has been appreciated since several decades, and has been kept alive through various transformations and innovations in the music creation and forms by various creative geniuses. It initially started off in the 1950s in the form of a combination of classic western, country and gospel music. The very idea was to rebel against the old classic ideas. It was very much loved and appreciated by many.
This was followed by the age of rock and roll, and the golden era of music between the late 1950s up to 1970. In this period, the world saw several exciting artists like Elvis Presley and The Penguins. It was all started off by a local DJ in the US called Alan Freed, who was the first person to actually use the words rock and roll, when he mixed rhythms and blues for the audience there. The period was also sometimes called the British Invasion, due to the spread of the popular genre to Europe, and the rise of several English artists like Cliff Richards. There were several forms like blues and soul that were being developed slowly in this period.
After this, rock changed into three totally different and separate forms. They all differed mainly in the speed of the musical instruments being played, the number of metallic sounds that were used, the place where the music was played and so on. These were blues, garage and pop or soft rock. They also differed in the amount of rebelliousness that they displayed. The period after this saw the emergence of the widely popular hard rock. The themes were mostly nihilist, anti Christ and displayed complete hatred and anger towards most of the conventions and the rules of the world. All of these branched off separately into various alternate forms, like heavy metal, nu metal and alternate or trance music.
