One of the things that you will notice when buying a radio controlled plane is the wide range of models on the market. It can be quite overwhelming to choose between all the different models and options offered. Of course the model shops will be only to happy to help you choose but you may want to ask yourself this question; "Do they have mine or their interests at heart?"
The advise that I am giving you today is what I have learnt over the years and mistake that I have made and hope you can avoid. Model Airplanes have cost me thousands over the years and looking back I could have saved myself thousands if I only knew what to look for and how to do things differently.
First things first, RC Model Aircraft do crash and when they do, it normally costs a fortune to rebuild, re buy or repair. This is the first and most important area that you need to concentrate on in order to save. What you need to do is look for a model that is cheap to build, easy to repair, yet great fun to fly.
There are a number of such options on the market. Just search for things like " big easy rc plane or easy to fix RC plane" and you will find a few. What you need to keep in mind here is not to go for a cheap kit plane that does not sell the electronic components separately. After the first crash you need to buy a complete kit again.
It is better to build something yourself or buy a very robust and strong aircraft that is easy to fix and easy to fly. This way if you crash it you can just repair the components that break.
I radio controlled plane can be heaps of fun if it is not costing you a fortune to keep it in the air. The cheaper it is to fly the more you can experiment and the less afraid you will be of crashing your RC aircraft.
