Under the Dome - Stephen King Book Review

Expert Author Denise Bloom

I read Under The Dome by Stephen King recently while on holiday it's quite a large book over 500 pages and is one of Stephen King's longest books I have read. I am a self confessed fan and Stephen King has been responsible for some of the most compelling stories of our time. He was responsible for IT, Pet Cemetery, The Shining and one of the most popular films of all time The Shawshank Redemption.

Under the dome is set in a small New England town called Chester's Mill like much of all Stephen Kings novels its set in Maine, New England. The first thing as a reader you are faced with is the pace of the novel. To look at it you would think it slow, possibly drawn out like so many other long novels, but King keeps it fairly simple building characters and plot lines.

The book is filled with characters which from the start leave you wondering who dun-it or who's to blame. There are lots of layers to this book - it shocks in parts and is quite disturbing but it's a read you find you just cannot put down.

Chester Mill suffers dome day. On this day the town is suddenly encapsulated by a invisible dome (a little bit like the Simpson's movie) as you might guess just as the dome lands all sorts of unspeakable acts happen not to give too much away buy involves people being caught half way. As the books goes on you find yourself less concerned for the dome but the characters and factions created within it.

This is where the book is clever drawing you in to politics and making you ponder the whole situation and you also find yourself putting yourself in the shoes of the characters. Under the dome is an absolute Stephen King classic and I would recommend to anyone who is a fan or perhaps would like to revisit Stephen King from previous novels. It would also make a great movie with the right actors in key parts it could be worthy of an Oscar if its multi-layers where exploited.
