To explain why certain fruits are great for type 2 diabetics, you must understand that diabetes mellitus is a serious physical condition that causes the pancreas to stop producing sufficient supplies of insulin. If the human cells cease responding, thus insulin production slows, which glucose cannot absorb in the bloodstream or body cells.
Treatments are offered which include a change in diet. Since the disease can cause major health problems, such as kidney failure, stroke, heart failure, and other complications it is important that diabetics learn which fruits can offer them the most benefits.
If you have type 2 diabetes you know the importance of getting enough fruits in your diet. Fruits contain fiber, vitamins and minerals, all of which you need to have a healthy diet. Fruits are perfect for a diabetic because they contain sugar and carbs that will actually increase your blood glucose level. You always want to make sure you choose a fruit that is fresh. If they are not available then you can go for frozen or dried fruits.
The fruits that are beneficial for a diabetic are the ones that are lower on the Glycemic index. The type of fruits I am talking about are; Peaches, Cherries, Grapefruit, Prunes, Apples, Plums, Pears, Oranges, Grapes, Blackberries, Kiwi, Figs, Guava, and Strawberries.
The fruits you should avoid are the ones higher on the Glycemic index. These foods can be eaten but they should be eaten in moderation and not all at once. Some of these fruits include watermelon, apricots, mango, and pineapple. You can eat these fruits but they should be eaten in smaller servings.
When you consume fruits you can either cook them or eat them in their raw form. Remember to not add sugar to them though. In most cases fruit juice should be avoided because most fruit juice is very high in sugar. If you insist on drinking fruit juice remember to dilute it in water. Avoid canned fruits that contain high fructose corn syrup.
Fruits are necessary for anyone to get vitamins and minerals you need throughout your day. Type 2 diabetics can still enjoy a healthy range of fruits without having to sacrifice much because most fruits are great for your diet. It is not bad to once in awhile eat a fruit higher on the glycemic index but make sure you watch yourself carefully and do not eat too much. Eat in moderation.
The first step to cure type 2 diabetes is to change your eating habits. There is a connection between obesity and type 2 diabetes and people known for eating healthier have less risk of getting diabetes.
