We've all heard of Twitter, if you haven't then you must have been castaway on a desert island for the last 18 months. This service has had a more of a major impact on traditional mainstream media and the web 2.0 world I believe even than Facebook, it's uncluttered interface and simple SMS like text based 140 character delivery makes for very easy, quick content, news distribution and syndication. This micro-blogging platform for many is an easier more immediate way to build relationships on-line than any other method yet devised.
In terms of generating instant free web traffic it is in my opinion second to none, instant deliverability direct to other users browser, mobile phone via SMS, desktop application or mobile phone applications, none of the inherent issues associated with email, deliverability, spam filters and junk mail.
Access to other peoples lists in essence through the power of re-tweeting, the power of which is misunderstood by many. I'll cover this in more depth via the links below, just think about that for a moment, you have access to all of your leaders and the gurus 'lists' or followers... You can feed them your message!
Now in terms of marketing it's best generally not to go head on with out and out pitches, this is one of the worst approaches and turns people off to your message very quickly, think what is annoying to you then apply that rule to yourself, being a part of the network marketing industry I find that I'm being pitched to all of the while, especially on Facebook from people I don't know, with probably nothing to offer, other than the supposedly next best business since sliced bread! Annoying isn't it.
Be real-life, offer great content, offer value, re-tweet content from others that may be of interest to your 'followers' post out your own valuable content, e.g. Your latest blog post, your latest offer etc... Share and be a part of the community.
You can subtly build your true marketing list by in effect peeling people off of your twitter following by directing them to your blog where you've much more in-depth information, naturally you can entice this twitter traffic to opt-in to your list with offers of even further valuable information that will be of use to your targeted audience.
Now you can obviously add links to your tweet for direct link traffic to your desired content or offers but you can also have links to you main web-site or blog, in the 'About' section at the top right had side of you twitter home page. Name, Location, Web (here you place a link to your own blog for example.)
