Tummy Tuck Options

The medical name of a tummy tuck is an Abdominoplasty. For those of you considering it, there are different kinds of tummy tucks, depending on your weight, and how much skin needs to be removed. A tummy tuck is when a plastic surgeon removes any excess and sagging skin you have around your abdomen. The sagging skin is often the result of drastic weight loss or following a pregnancy. When the skin is removed, the abdomen muscles are also tightened, which gives your body a more contoured look. Like I said, there are different kinds of tummy tucks.

1. Full Tummy Tuck: These are the most invasive and recover the most recovery time. They are for people who are approximately 20% higher than their ideal weight. With a full operation, the surgeon will make an incision across your abdomen along the pubic bone. He'll remove skin above and below your naval, and then sew the two pieces back together. With this procedure, the naval needs to be repositioned to continue looking naturally placed. Due to the fact you need to be put under for this procedure, it is not ideal for people with heart or other health problems. Recovery is slow and often painful.

2. Partial Tummy Tuck: This partial operation is for people a little close to their ideal weight (10%). There is still an incision made across the pelvic bone, but it is a smaller incision. Skin is removed from below the naval, which does not need to be repositioned for this procedure. It can be done under a local anesthetic, so recovery time is much faster and the procedure carries less risks.

3. Tummy Tuck Plus Liposuction: This procedure is for people who still have some weight to lose. The surgeon will use a ultrasonic energy to melt the fat in your abdomen and then suction it out. The surgeon then proceeds with the operation.

Which ever procedure you chose, you will be left with a flatter firmer stomach. Due to the placement of the incision, any minimal scarring will be hardly noticeable.
