I think we can come close to a better understanding of this phenomenon in today's world by comparing it to a tree.
When you look at a tree, you see the trunk, the branches, and the leaves or/and fruits or/and flowers. It's a beautiful decoration to any city and it's very beneficial to the entire world. The more trees we have, the better air quality we'll breathe.
But not everybody takes notice of it. Some people despise it, others destroy it, and still others use it for their own financial benefits. And so we have a shortage of trees in most main cities, besides the continuing destruction of the world's largest natural forest, the Amazon.
Just like trees, true love is beautiful and very beneficial to society. When there's true love, their less selfishness, anger, violence, corruption, and chaos. The world is a much better place. Suicide is an unbearable thought and there's really no reason for depression. The more families are built through true love, the more society becomes united and organised.
But, as every good thing in life, true love has been distorted in many ways. First, true love was considered possible but by chance or luck. Then, it became a feeling with a deadline. And now, it's just considered a fairy tale. People despise it, badmouth it, and ridicule it. Families are no longer that important to society. Marriages, much less. Faithfulness, just unheard of.
True love is now a thing of fictional books. People don't believe it and so they don't work for it. And so you have what we have today. A loveless society, one I'm ashamed to even fight for. All the cynicism about marriage from Hollywood has now sunk in most worlds' citizens' minds and nobody talks about it. Nobody reprehends it. Nobody questions it.
Just like trees, it's not important enough. And if marriage is considered, it comes down to what you'll get from the divorce. Despised, destroyed, and used. Teenage girls don't want to get married, they want to have children. Single parented children don't want to get married; they want to succeed in life without the need of someone else beside them. What a fake love society we've become!
Where's true love? How does one find it? Who gets to find it?
When you look at the trees, you hardly think of the roots but all of them have them. Without the roots, there's no tree. True love is the very thing one cannot see and yet holds an entire life. Few people have had the privilege of actually finding it and I am one of them.
I'm married for 18 years to a wonderful caring husband. But that's not where I found true love. That's what true love flourished in my life, in other words, that's the trunk and the leaves, flowers, and fruits. The root however is much deeper than that. It's a spiritual relationship that gives me the support I need to hold on to a spouse and live happily as one.
People may regret their spiritual side of life but they can't deny the fact that there's always a small voice inside their head saying 'what the heck is lacking here?' No matter how hard they work, no matter how much money they make, no matter how much love they feel, there's always something missing, and they can never pinpoint. And do you know why?
Because it's spiritual. You can't pinpoint a spiritual thirst. You just feel incomplete, as if there's a huge gap right in the middle of your chest.
When I finally have this spiritual revival in my life, I closed that gap. I found myself. I was no longer doing it all on my own or trying to find the perfect matching pair in the dark. I could now see. I could now choose right. I could now make a step towards a real life.
Some people look at us and say we were lucky to find one another. I beg to differ. My husband and I were paired by a divine intervention. Not only because I worked on my roots, but also because he did it just as well. Just like a glove, we fit from day one.
Thus, anyone who knows us can testify of the kind of flowers and fruits we produce. And better yet, there are no seasons. We flourish more with every added year into the marriage.
What is true love? Check out your roots. Work on them. And you'll find out for yourself.
