Trout can be found in North America, Europe, Northern Asia, and even the Ocean. Trout prefer clear, cool fresh water. However, some trout will head to the ocean during their adulthood and return to their original fresh water spot when it is time for them to spawn. Yes, trout are related to salmon and also spawn.

Information about the different species of trout is important, as they do have different characteristics which are helpful to know when trying to snag them. The truth is, though, that there are not as many species of trout as one might think. Why? Because trout tend to adapt their coloring and patterning to the area where they are feeding.

For starters, it is safe to assume that most any trout will go after worms or nightcrawlers. They will also like mayflies, caddis flies, and stone flies.
