• 1 cup of sweetened and condensed milk
• 1 cup heavy cream and 3/4 cup of heavy cream
• 1 tablespoon of rum
• 1 pinch of salt
• Fresh berries or cinnamon as optional garnishes
Directions for Tres Leches cake recipe:
• Combine the flour, baking powder and salt
• In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, oil and 1 teaspoon of vanilla
• Add eggs to sugar mix one at a time
• Combine well
• Stir in the 1/2 cup of milk
• Gently fold in the flour mix
• Pour the batter into a cake pan
• Bake in the oven at 325 degrees for about 30 or 40 minutes
• Let the cake cool
• Turn it over onto a plate that has raised edges
• Poke the cake with a fork
• Let it cool for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator
• Whisk 1 cup of the milk, 1 cup of the sweetened and condensed milk, 1 cup of the heavy cream and rum
• Slowly pour the mix over top of the cake when cooled
• Refrigerate for one hour
• Occasionally, spoon the milk back over top of the cake
• In a mixing bowl, add 3/4 cup of the heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the white sugar
• Beat until it forms stiff and white peaks
• Spread the mix over top of the cake
• Sprinkle on top with the cinnamon
• Garnish with fresh berries
There are also a lot of different ideas you can do to vary this tres leches cake recipe. For instance, you can substitute Frangelico, brandy of Chambord instead of the rum to add a rich flavor. You can also try a tropical version by replacing the sweetened condensed milk with a cup of Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut and a ¼ cup of rum.
