Trend Trading For a Living - Is it Possible?

Many people ask if trend trading to earn a living is a possibility. The short answer is "yes." But, there are many things to consider before you quit your day job.

The first consideration is what "earning a living" means to you. You might be satisfied with $60K a year. You might want to make millions.

The second consideration is the amount of money you are able and willing to invest. The more you invest, the higher your profits will be. Thus, the higher your annual income will be.

All investments are accompanied by some risk. So, you have to be willing to lose all or most of your investment. The goal is to make a profit, but not everyone achieves that goal.

Another consideration is the amount of time that you are willing to spend tracking the trends and learning to spot good entry and exit points. If you are a "newbie", you may need to attend seminars, read books, talk with other investors or find other sources of information. As with everything else in life, the more knowledge you have, the more successful you will be.

New software has made it easier for people with little or no experience to follow the trends and make successful trades. But, of course, the software costs money and it takes time to learn how to use it. So, that's another consideration.

If you have money to invest, you can start trading without quitting your day job. Hourly monitoring is unnecessary. This is not day-trading.

When we follow the trends, we might hold a position for months or even years. On the average, the position is held for three to six months.

While successful trading does take some time, it is not necessary to sit in front of a computer screen 24 hours a day. Many successful investors manage their trades in less than an hour per day.

So, it doesn't interfere with their career or their leisure activities. With automated trading signals on their PCs, laptops and phones, they could be practically anywhere, as long as there is a cell phone signal, and still make a successful trade.

Trend trading is not the most exciting thing that you will ever do. In fact, the most successful traders put their emotions on hold. Watching daily peaks and valleys can be nerve-wracking.

The last thing to consider is how long you can hold a position, without selling. If you need a regular weekly paycheck, you still need your day job, but that's okay. Trend trading is a part-time career, anyway.
