For millions of women across the globe cellulite is a major issue. While it is physically harmless the psychological impact of what can be an unsightly problem cannot be understated. Nine out of ten women will suffer from this condition in their lifetime and the condition becomes worse as women age. This means that essentially every woman can expect to develop the condition sometime in their life. However, the severity of the problem varies from woman to woman.
Cellulite is an embarrassing problem and can give the skin a look which is often described as an orange-peel or cottage cheese. The areas that are most often effect are the arms, stomach, hips, thighs and buttocks - but other areas can also be affected, depending on the severity of the problem.
The condition is caused by the honeycomb-like fat that exists underneath the skin which can bulge when overloaded. While women are the typical sufferers of this condition some men can also be affected. Women are more likely to get cellulite than men because of their higher fat contents.
When a woman develops these conditions she has a number of options available to her. She may wish to visit her doctor for medical treatments or her local spa that offer cellulite treatments and reduction therapies. Or she could try one of the many home therapies which are available to her.
The many treatments available means that it can sometimes be confusing what remedies are best. This is an individual question and can only be answered when you have explored all your options. You will need to consider the time you can devote to this problem as well as the associated cost. As some treatments can take weeks or months and can run into the hundreds or thousands of dollars you really need to choose wisely.
Some free and easy treatments are available, however. Firstly, you need to start exercising. This will help reduce the fat underneath the skin and increase your muscle mass which will stretch the skin to make the cellulite appear less noticeable. The exercise will also increase the circulation through your body which can help your skin to look better.
Secondly, you should adjust your diet to reduce your fat intake. This will help reduce the fat that is collected underneath the skin that is causing the problem.
And thirdly, drink plenty of water as this will help you skin look better, remove toxins from your body and make you feel more full so you don't consume as much as food.
Making some slight adjustments to your diet and exercise regime can have a large impact on the appearance of cellulite. The other treatments that are available can also assist you when diet and exercise has failed.
