Traffic Ticket Defense Strategies
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Most people at some point in their driving career will get a traffic ticket for one reason or another. Most people will take these tickets and pay them. Some like not having your license on you or an out of date tag really can't be fought with any defense or strategy. But there are traffic ticket defense strategies that can be used for certain traffic violations.

One of the most common strategies is that you were realistically unaware of whatever rule it was that you broke. Storms sometimes knock down stop signs, yield signs, and speeding limit signs. Sometimes people will spray paint over a speed limit or even steal the sign. Your defense here is that you were unaware of what rule that you happened to break because the city didn't have the signs properly posted. If this happens to you, get photo or video evidence as soon as possible to defend yourself.

Another strategy is to lookup your violation in your local area. Normally there a few points that must be proven and a few guidelines for the officer. Look at each one of these and see if everything was followed correctly and if each can be proven in court. If you find a flaw with just one of these that can be your defense.

Another strategy is to question the reliability of the devices that were used to measure your speed if it's a speeding offense. These devices have to be calibrated and have documentation from time to time. If this documentation is not legally up to date, you can get out of the ticket as the readings are just hearsay at that point.

Don't be afraid to come up with your best defense because the reality is that more often than not tickets that are challenge in court typically win or at least get a reduced fine.
