If you want to build traffic to a website, and you want to do it cheaply, you might consider re-reading this article when you're done. Building a stream of targeted, active traffic to your website can be done easily by guest blogging. Using guest blogging, you can reach a demographic that already is interested in the topic (or they wouldn't be reading the blog) and is willing to click to learn more.
So, what is guest blogging? When you guest blog on a blog, the owner of the blog posts a blog post that is written by you. You write it, send it to the blog owner and then they post it to the blog for their readers to read. Please note, however, that we aren't talking about commenting on a blog. And we certainly aren't talking about links in forum signatures. But, guest blogging can be just as easy!
Going about it is pretty simple. First, you've got to find a few blogs that are on the topic you want to reach. It would be a waste of your time to send a guest post on traffic generation to a blog that reviews makeup samples. The simplest way to find a blog on your chosen topic is to just do a search for that topic. Google blog search works well. As does the search on Technorati.com.
Once you've found a blog, you need to contact the blog owner. Usually, there is a contact page or contact form on the website somewhere. Use that. Give the blog owner a brief overview of what you are interested in and that you'd like to write a guest post on their blog. Another key part here is that the content must be unique and not published anywhere else. Duplicate content can get everyone involved on the search engines naughty list.
Why does guest blogging work? If you're not a blogger, you probably don't know that bloggers are usually people just like you and me. They have regular daytime jobs and do most of their blogging in the evenings and weekends. Their time is limited. And valuable to them. One of the key facts about blogging is that without content, the blog will shrivel up and all the readers will move on. Obviously, bloggers don't want that to happen. They need content to build traffic to build popularity and income.
So, it makes sense that a blogger is interested in unique content. They need lots of it, and the less that they have to write themselves, the more of their valuable time they have to devote to something else. Delivering that content for the price of a link makes that content look very affordable to the blogger, and it serves your purpose as well. Targeted traffic.
When people read the guest blog, they'll get interested in finding out more about you and your product. They'll click on the link that you placed in a bio box or in the text. We know they are already interested in the topic because they are reading the blog, and now they are becoming targeted traffic to your site.
Another benefit of guest blogging is that you build back links and authority. The link you place in the guest blog will be seen by the search engines and will increase your sites ranking in the search engine which can increase your links placement in search results. The authority comes from having an article you wrote appear on a developed and established topical blog.
As you develop a portfolio of guest blogging opportunities, you can return to them from time to time to do another guest post. Or, you can develop a joint venture of some sort with the blog owner. Or, you can turn the blog owner into an affiliate that sends traffic to your site in exchange for a share of the profits. All from just an article or two posted on someone else's blog.
