Top Tips to Manage Your Fussy Baby Without Going Mad

You've done all that you knew to soothe your baby's crabby mood, but your baby doesn't seem to let go of her tears. You are confused and frustrated yourself. The sight of your crying baby is not doing anything good for your heart as well. Before you pull your hair apart or start berating your mothering skills, try these tips to calm your baby's crankiness.

Relax. Babies getting fussy is not an uncommon occurrence. Don't let your imagination run wild regarding the baby's health if she doesn't seem to respond to your usual soothing techniques such as changing the diaper or feeding her.

Getting all tensed up or doubting your mothering skills aren't going to help either. Realize all mothers started this way and learnt with experience.

Use Different Holding Positions. If the baby isn't satisfied with you holding him sitting down, get up and move around. Sit again after a few minutes. Use a rocking chair next. The changing motions may soothe your baby.

Go Outdoors. Fresh scenes of the outdoors may soothe your baby. Visit the nearest park and walk through the greenery listening to the sounds of the surroundings.

Use the Senses. A sense of touch and sound can soothe the baby. Hold her close in your arms without suffocating her, and sing to her. You can also use your rocking chair or rock her while holding in your arms. The rocking motion along with your touch and sound make her feel close to you, which may reduce her fussiness.

Give a Warm Bath. Soothe your baby's nerves with a warm bath. Using a scented baby body wash may also work. Use gentle scents such as lavender. Dry up your baby with a soft baby towel.

Try Silence. May be the noise and other sounds are making your baby cranky. Take the baby to a quieter room in the house. Use soothing sounds such as white noises or an audio record of your voice reciting his favorite rhyme, song or tune, may help soothe him.

Divert Baby's Attention. Get creative and try different things to capture your baby's attention enough to make him forget his crankiness. You could give him his favorite teddy bear or other toy to soothe. Show him his reflection in the mirror and see if it diverts his attention. Moving traffic, stars in the sky and night lights are also good objects to divert attention. Check what works for your baby.
