1) Develop a business plan. This will increase your chances of success. It should also include projections for the business and how to manage and specifics on how you'll manage your time working from home. Be realistic, you don't want a plan that has you working more hours than you can handle or deal with obvious domestic interruptions. If you have young children at home work when they are either in bed or being entertained by others and do not try to be very productive when they are around. It won't happen!
2) Establish a work schedule. Draw up a list of want you want to achieve each day, it will help you keep focused and will help you leave the office or the lap top on time.
3) Differentiate between home and office. Create a separate workspace even if it is a desk under the stairs. The important thing is that you have a place that's interruption free at some point in the day.
4) Be professional. For some people working from home means flopping out of bed to their office still in their pj's. This may work for some people but you'll do far better if you make a point of changing into your work clothes; it'll maintain a professional work ethic.(this does not mean a full on business suit)
5) Get connected. This goes without saying in the internet business world. If you don't it will only harm your business. Get a good internet connection and have a good phone system or a way to keep communication wit your customers or contacts. Always have a backup of a local place with free wifi.
6) Find a meeting place. You may not be setup for visitors, so find a local well connected place to meet. It has easy access to the motorway network and has free wifi
7) Outsourcing. At some point your business is going to need help or more accurately be able to get some else to do a task for you and to allow you to get on with growing your business.
8) Get out of the house. To avoid going mad or as I say getting cabin fever. Give yourself the morning or afternoon off to do something different meet old friends, see a film or go to the gym.
9) Avoid distractions. One of the biggest pitfalls of a home based business is the urge to clean up, watch TV, and quash these as they are not income generating activities. When you are at work, you are at work. Don't do anything but focus on your business activities.
10) Don't feel guilty. You're probably working harder than when you worked in an office, so don't be made to feel you are skiving. Remember those pointless conversations you had at work to keep in with the politics.
