Unconventional gas, in essence, is the same as conventional gas, and is therefore used in the same ways. The major difference between conventional gas and unconventional gas is in the way it is harvested.
Unconventional gas is only deemed unconventional due to the areas in which it is found. Many times, it is from areas which up until recently were too expensive to mine from. In many cases too, what is now 'conventional' gas, was at one time defined as 'unconventional'. This occurs due to progress being made in the discovery and exploration of gas deposits all over the world. Everyday scientists and leading companies find newer, better, and more economical ways in which to mind different types of deposits, such as coalbed methane and shale.
