Building a compost bin is easy and fun. You can build one with the materials available at your home or if you want to take it further you may buy stuff from the market. But in all probability you can build one with the junk available in your backyard or the loft. Just use your imagination and scout the entire house. You will find stuff which you have never known how to use.

The common style of small scale composting is done in a container which may be made of plastic, wood, masonry, or wire screen. Containers Compost bins can be as simple as a square slatted wood enclosure or as sophisticated as a tumbler, which allows for the "pile" to be turned for aeration purposes.

For making a standard size of wooden bins you need A 4-x-8-foot sheet of 1/2-inch exterior plywood, one 12-foot length of 2 x 4 lumber and one 16-foot length of 2 x 4 lumber, adequate number of 16d and 6d galvanized nails, 2 galvanized door hinges, plastic sheets for putting over and under the bin.

A rectangular box and its lid are made out of these materials and hinges are attached to the inside of the back of the bin at each end and the corresponding undersides of the back edge of the lid frame, so that the lid stands upright when opened.

Two coats of varnish are applied, which is optional, to increase its longevity. Now, after drilling twelve 1/2-inch holes through the plywood bottom of the bin for drainage, it is ready for use.

Plastic sheets maybe placed under and over the storage bin (optional). Half a kilogram of worms are required for every 250 gram of food wastes produced per day. Peat moss, brown leaves, moistened shredded newspaper or moistened shredded cardboard for preparation of bedding for worms.

Thus build a compost bin yourself and see the flowers in your garden blooming. It will give you immense pleasure to see your own creativity around you and that too at the possible minimum charges.

Why not create your own containers garden with Containers, pots and Planting boxes which are easy to maintain but still yields great results. I'm a garden lover for many years. Always had a beautiful garden and always looked for ways to improve it. After my children the garden is my number one priority.

Self-maintained colorful garden is a dream of almost every house owner. We all want our house to look nice and be decorated with colors and fragrance.
