Tips on Finding Job Vacancies

Expert Author Mark Andrew Woodcock

These times are tough on everyone... Well, nearly everyone, but the people getting hit the hardest are the working stiffs. Not just the blue collar working class folk, but the white collar office people, the working single moms, the small business owners... Basically, anyone who needs work, anyone without a few million to spare, is feeling this recession and looking for job vacancies.

We need as much help as we can get, so here are a few tips for finding those vacancies...

Look Online

One of the best ways to find job openings is online. Another great opportunity: Working online. There are a lot of scams online, sure, but if you have any common sense, you should be able to spot a real opportunity easily enough. Put bids in on freelancer websites for any skills you have on the laptop, be it Photoshop, programming, writing, music, video, anything. Someone out there might just have a job for you.

Talk to Friends

One of the best ways to get a job is through a friend. A recent study showed that for every thousand or so applications filled out, only one person will be hired. It's best when you can fill out an application as a mere formality. Talk to any friend with a job and see if they have any openings at work. If they can vouch for you, you should get picked up quick.

Walk Right In

There are a few types of establishments that are always having people quit on them: restaurants, gas stations, and convenience stores. Is this anyone's dream job? No, but it's paying work, and it'll hold you over until you can find something better.

These aren't the only ways to find work, but they do tend to be amongst the most reliable ways to get a job. Maybe not the best jobs in the world, but jobs, nonetheless. In an economy like this, there's no shame in getting a temporary gig while waiting for something better to come along.
