Tips on Different Wine Tasting Glasses to Choose From

Expert Author Vaso Johnson

The average individual may not realize that there are many styles of wine tasting glasses to choose from while a wine connoisseur is sure to pay close attention to the glass they are drinking from. Some individuals believe that a wine tasting glass should be chosen for the type of wine to be tasted. Others believe that the glass does not play such a role in wine tasting. With all of the wine tasting glasses that are available you are sure to find the one that suits your taste or the one that makes the perfect gift.

When the preference is red wine, a glass with a significant amount of air flow is needed. The reason that this drink is served in a wide bowl style vessel is to allow for a consistent flow of air which makes for a more pleasant taste. More times than not it will be said that a wide mouth glass has the same effect for red wine but for most individuals the bowl style glass would be the best choice.

If white wine is your choice then a glass with a narrow body and a slender mouth would be the perfect choice. The reason for this is that with a narrow body and smaller mouth the wine will stay chilled for a longer period of time. One plus of drinking white wine from a more narrow goblet is that the aroma of the wine becomes more intense.

Champagne glasses are narrower as well, with a long slender stem and a longer and narrower mouth. This way the champagne vessel allows for the tiny bubbles to reach the pallet more quickly. This style of goblet is also a good choice for sipping sparkling wines.

When enjoying a dessert wine look for a glass that has a higher and more tapered bowl. This style provides a sufficient area for swirling while allowing for ample air flow in the mouth.
