Article marketing is great for getting traffic to your site but it's also been great for building one way, incoming links. As we all know by now, link building is an essential part of web site promotion, and typically must be done consistently through the life of your site. Here are some tips for building better links with article marketing:
Alternate Anchor Text
On each site you post your article, you can change the anchor text of your link. This is great for targeting multiple keyword phrases.
Alternate URL's
Don't forget to alternate the URL's that you link to in the article text and the resource boxes. For example, don't just build links to your home page, but also point links to key internal pages of your site.
Submitting Your Articles
Your articles should be submitted to the top article directories, but there are also hundreds more article directories that you can also submit to. I usually tend to submit to just the top few that have great authority, however.
Submitting to Web 2.0 Sites
From social networks to social bookmarking sites to answers sites to how-to sites to communities, there's thousands upon thousands of web 2.0 sites where you can post your article content with a link. Don't forget to search for web 2.0 sites that cater to your niche. So if you wrote an article about dog training, then find web 2.0 sites that are related to animals, dogs and pet owners, like Dogster, for instance.
Posting on Blogs and Content Sites
You can also use articles to build links on blogs and content sites like Squidoo, HubPages, WetPaint, Qassia, LiveJournal, Vox and many more. These sites all allow you to create your own web site, blog or page with your own content. When you post your article content to these sites you can insert your link in the text. There's literally thousands of these sites and many with very high Pagerank and/or authority. You can even break a long article into many pieces and post something unique on each one for even better results.
Contextual Linking
Contextual links are links that appear inside the text of the article, instead of a resource box. Search engines love this type of link, so it's great to post your article content, perhaps even re-write it a little bit for each site you post it to and then add contextual links to different pages of your site.
