Time-Related Terms

As a basketball coach the thing that you must keep in mind is the importance of the clock, it plays a very important role in every game, to both sides either offensive or defensive. Your responsibility as a coach is to make sure that your kids fully understand and acknowledge the importance of the clock and the time frame. I will present you with a short list of the time-related terms: ten seconds in the backcourt - in the case that a team doesn't get the ball across the mid court in less than ten seconds after they caught an inbound ball; five seconds to inbound - you have five seconds to inbound the ball from the sidelines or the baseline, you can avoid this by calling for time out; closely guarded for five seconds - you are not allowed to guard an offensive player more than five seconds if he doesn't dribble or pivots; three seconds in the lane - if your team has the ball, your other teammates have three seconds to clear the lane.

You can try to enforce and reinforce this aspects of the game during practices and training games, because it is a crucial aspect of the game that you must make sure your kids must fully understand, dwell on this as much as possible, until you are sure that they learned this aspect. Time frames play a key role in a game, and if your team masters them, you will have the advantage to win the games and even the season.
