Time management tools are everywhere, and more and more are being invented every day. Everyone, it seems, is in a quest to get a better handle on their time management issues. We will try anything and everything.
Every year, I have to go buy my favorite organizer. This thing is really cool. It's like 8" x 11". It's black (sleek) and has quarterly hour lines (15 minute lines) where I can fill in my schedule. Believe me, I pay a bunch of money for this thing. I take it home to start filling in my next couple weeks. The only problem is that the things that I fill in I already know I have to do. I already know I have to take my daughter to her after school program. I already know I have to pick up the grandkids from daycare. I already know I have to start dinner at a certain time if I don't have something in the crock pot. So, as far as handling the day to day things I have to do--basically my daily to-do list--I don't really use my beloved ultra sleek black planner. Nevertheless, year after year I buy this thing with all the best intentions. I did finally wise up and this year got one that did not already have the dates in it. So basically, this one planner will last me, like, 40 years. Cool, huh? How about money-saving, too? The reason it will last me that long is because I kind of forget to look at it. Every few months I notice it on my desk and open it, admire it and fill in a few days.
If I have an appointment that I really need to remember I put in my phone. They are great time management tools. Some problems with using the phone include they occasionally break or get lost. Also, if I have the phone set to vibrate for whatever reason I may miss that I had an alarm set. Too, if I'm talking on the phone while an alarm is trying to go off, it will only snooze so many times before stopping-this is really bad for my very long-winded daughter. Moreover, if I forget to look at it after I get off the phone, that alarm did me absolutely no good. Finally, once in a great while I may forget to charge the phone and it may be dead instead of reminding me of an alarm.
A daily to-do list is still my absolute favorite and most effective method of getting everything done. I start my list in the morning and as things come up during the day I just added them to the list. This was (and still is) a pretty effective way to keep up with what I need to do and when I'm done I can scratch that item off my list. You can make your daily to-do list on anything from a napkin to a regular piece of paper to a to-do list pad to a software program. Any and all of these methods will work if you use them.
