Thor Rush in SC2 - Does It Work?

Expert Author Eric Conklin

It can be very difficult to tell what works in StarCraft 2. SC2 is a complex and intricate game with thousands of tiny variables. The Thor rush SC2 strategy is an example of a risky and complex strategy that can pay off well in the right hands, but not if the person using it doesn't pay very close attention to the risk involved. Here is a layout of how to put the Thor Rush SC2 strategy to work and dominate your opponent with an early high tech unit.

Think of Thor rush much in the same way as you might look at a void ray rush. You need the appropriate protection to get the units, but if you play your cards right and are working against the correct opponent, you can destroy them without a problem. This means taking the time to observe very carefully everything they are doing.

If your opponent is massing void rays, stop building Thors! The same goes for marines, zerglings, and immortals. Thors are a great well rounded unit with a ton of hit points and can take down most StarCraft 2 opponents when used in the right circumstances, but don't allow yourself to get too caught up with fighting your opponent to forget just how high priority of a target the Thor is and how it can be countered.

Overall, pay attention to what your opponent is doing. Like any SC2 strategy, the Thor Rush SC2 strategy isn't perfect. Use the Thor's massive cannons to break apart choke points and push into an opponent's base more effectively. Once you have 3 or 4 Thors, attack with SCV's to support and repair and air units or infantry to keep smaller units and air units off the Thor's back.
