Thirteen years of marriage is an accomplishment. At thirteen years, it begins to look like you're going to stick it out. Congratulations, and happy thirteenth wedding anniversary. Looking for interesting, different ways to celebrate? You've come to the right place. Here are seven new, maybe slightly different, possibly outrageous ways to celebrate thirteen years of wedded bliss.
1. Sexy lingerie. Okay, not so unpredictable. Here's the different, unpredictable part. Wives, buy the sexy nightie, teddy or other lace and frill affair--for your husband! No, not for him to show a different, sensitive guy side of himself that you'd rather not know about; it's for you to show him exactly what's on your mind for the night of your anniversary. Worry not; he'll get the idea. He'll probably let you help unwrap it.
2. Speaking of lacy things, how about a nicely framed--in lace--wedding or family portrait of you? This isn't hard to do. Find a favorite picture, and a swatch of lace, possibly from a family antique source, or from a parent, and surround the portrait in this heirloom lace. This is a one of a kind remembrance.
3. Find thirteen items, one from every year of your marriage. These can be simple things--vacation mementos, trinkets from past anniversaries, ticket stubs from concerts or plays, anything that will remind your spouse of 1996, 2002, 2006 etc. Either use those in your lace framing, or just create a collage from them and have it framed.
4. Okay, forget the lacy undies from the lingerie store in the mall, create your own sexy outfit. Find a lightweight, ultra sheer paper. Make a string of lace hearts, or other design of your choice as cutouts, like when you were a kid, and string them together. When they arrive home from work, guess what you're wearing? Of course, again like when you were kids, the real fun will be in tearing it apart. Have fun. I'd have the kids away, visiting friends for this. Just a thought.
5. The lacy stuff isn't restricted to women by any means. Ladies, there are some pretty sexy underwear items available for men these days. Imagine what he'll think about all day while wearing a pair of really sexy briefs you've bought for him. Just make sure he has no doctor's appointment, or a workout date with gym buddies. Or maybe he's a really enlightened guy and doesn't worry about such stuff. If so, good for him. You married well.
6. Guys, listen up. Women love to be shown off. No news there? Okay, so act on it. Tell her that, even after thirteen years, she's still the sexiest, most beautiful woman on earth. Buy her a really fine, ultra flattering lace dress, and take her out to the five star restaurant you've always wanted to try. Buy her a corsage. Have flowers waiting at the table. Make it better than your wedding night. Ladies, this works for us men, too. Everyone craves the sense of belonging, of being loved beyond reason. Make number thirteen truly memorable.
7. Let's face it, thirteen bucks falls through the cracks every week. Even in today's economic climate, we throw away thirteen dollars a week, don't we? So find an old cookie jar, toss thirteen bucks in it every week, and by number fourteen you'll have $676.00. This is a pretty good start toward that long weekend in Vegas, or San Francisco, or wherever you've wanted to go. Call it found money.
Thirteenth wedding anniversaries don't have to be just another day in your marriage. Every day should be one to enjoy, and, regardless of its ominous connotation, number thirteen can be the best day yet. Happy anniversary!
