The secret to thinking yourself to success is to develop and build your self-confidence. Everyone starts somewhere. Check these self-confidence tips and make a commitment to start doing them today.
1. Be a front seater. That is, in any gathering whether it be church, meeting room, conference gathering or business presentation, sit in the front 2 rows. There are always seats available at the front of the room. Sitting at the front makes you feel like a VIP. If you are worried that you will be noticed, approach it as a learning process. Remember that successful people are not anonymous, so it is something that you need to get used to.
2. Make eye contact. When you speak with people, gently make and keep eye contact with them. It shows that you are paying attention and they will be flattered by all the attention. Making eye contact with people when you speak with them not only gives you confidence, it also wins the confidence of that person. People will be more trusting of you.
3. Walk 25 percent faster. Try this. Walk normally. Now speed it up 25%. Notice how your whole body posture changes. Your shoulders will be back, your head up and you will move more fluently. You immediately appear more important. People will think that you have an important job to do. I found that walking a little faster picks up my mood and helps me feel in control.
4. Speak up. That is, fully participate in discussions. I make it a rule that I speak up at every meeting or conference and be the first to speak rather than the last. In business circles today, it is considered very important that all members participate and make a contribution. Also, if you announce your name and your affiliation or place where you are from, people will get to know who you are quicker.
5. Smile. A big smile not only helps you feel more confident, it melts away any opposition of others. Try it. Smiling made me more approachable and after I noticed a colleague who actively smiled more when putting across a proposal that might meet with resistance melt away the opponents, I tried it for myself. Happy people are more pleasing to be with, more approachable and they are natural winners.
Start moving forward with confidence building actions today and watch the changes in your life.
