The simple truth is that losing weight is about more than diet and exercise. Without the proper mindset you may lose a few pounds, but the reality is that most people gain it back and weight loss becomes a lifetime struggle.

What you focus on when you decide to lose weight will greatly affect your success. Simply stating "I want to lose X amount of weight," doesn't set your brain up for a positive outcome. Instead of focusing on X amount of weight, change your focus to being at your ideal weight and being at your optimal health.

By changing your focus to ideal weight and optimal health, it totally changes the dynamics of losing weight. It's about more than pounds now. It's about feeling well and energized and happy about your body, your life and your future health.

Whether you are successful at becoming your ideal weight also depends on who you are doing it for. If you've made a decision to lose weight based on what you think someone else thinks about you, then you're sabotaging your plans. What other people think doesn't matter in comparison to how you feel about yourself. Making the decision to lose weight must be a decision that you feel good about. It must be a decision that creates a good feeling deep inside you. Otherwise you'll soon get bored with the whole process and give up.

The best weight loss plan for most every person begins with checking with your doctor to make sure that the diet and exercise program you've chosen is safe for you.

Then decide to be happy in your current situation. Striving to be happy can create a mindset that allows you to enjoy life in the present. Once you enjoy your life, instead of being down and depressed about your weight loss progress, you're ecstatic because you're still moving forward and all is good in your life.

Even though we all have times where we find ourselves wanting to give up, keeping your ideal weight and optimal health at the forefront of your mind can give you that extra push to keep moving forward in your weight loss experience.
