There Are Imitators and Innovators - Which Are You?

Expert Author Lance Winslow

One thing is for sure humans are very similar to other primates and their primal behavior is more than obvious from what I can see in observation. Now realize I am no Jane Goodall, but it seems amazing to me the amount of imitating that humans do, and it's as if you cannot get around it. Any new strategy you come up with online will be copied and if it is any good will go viral in a matter of a few hours, and if you go to sleep you are liable to wake up and find four new contestants vying for the top of Google Search results with their sneaky little S-E-O strategies?

Well, whoopee doo dah I say, all they did was copy it anyway. We have more copy catters amongst the human race than folks living in China these days. Still, there are the stand-out few who continually come up with new innovations. It's too bad everyone is so busy copying everyone else because in doing so they are not learning how to think for themselves. And it is my contention it is much easier to copy than to innovate. And at some point in your life you and everyone else are going to have to choose if you are an innovator or merely another imitator.

If you are of the imitation generation, don't feel bad, as there are many billions of you, but I do hope you do someday come up with an original thought of your own. Because if not, you are lowering your level of thought to that of similar upright walking primates on the planet and it is indeed nothing to aspire too. So, how do you know if you qualify as an innovator? Well, it's easy and we can do this with a simple series of questions.

  • What do you do for a living; are you the only one doing it that way?
  • What have you ever created that was totally unique?
  • What original thoughts have you had?

Well? Ask yourself questions like that.
