The Worst Reviewed Movies Ever and Their Plots

It is very common in the corporate world for people to give out gifts. Gifts can come in any fashion and for any purpose. Some can be corporate gifts given out to employees and other times people give out promotional merchandise to represent their company or product in hopes of getting the receivers of said merchandise to use their service or buy their product in the future.

In fact, it is a fairly common practice in the film industry to give out gifts to movie critics at a pre-screening in the hopes that maybe it will influence their review somewhat. However, there are some movies that nothing can help. Yes, some films are so poorly done that if the producers gave the critics at their pre-screening each their own island in the South Pacific the reviews would still be unanimously terrible, and this is a list of some of those movies along with brief plot summaries.

The most critically panned sci-fi movie since the genre began, at least one with a budget further than $25, is one that was supposed to kick off a brilliant franchise with many different movies. However, Battlefield Earth was so miserable that fewer than 3% of critics to view the movie gave it positive reviews. With some truly ridiculous character names like Johnny Goodboy and nearly every character, including star John Travolta, donning absurd dreadlocks was there ever a chance that this movie would actually succeed?

If you love stupidly formulaic romantic comedies and completely overexposed celebrity couples then the 2003 romantic comedy Gigli, starring Jennifer Lopez and then boyfriend Ben Affleck, is for you. Sadly for the producers, director, and stars of the film it turns out that about 90 percent of America hates both of those things. The movie has a very bizarre plot featuring Affleck as an assassin in the mob given the task of kidnapping the son of a powerful politician and then Jennifer Lopez is a female assassin sent in to help him with the kidnapping. Of course that all makes perfect sense, because who does not think of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez looking people when they picture hardened, career criminals?

Continuing with the trend of romantic comedies, a film called Because I Said So is another one of the worst movies of the past decade. The movie stars Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore and is apparently about Keaton being Moore's characters mother and trying to set her up with somebody to marry. The plot can be summarized in the following sentence: two people hate each other and are thrown together through extenuating circumstances; the two are in love and live happily ever after, the end.

Despite the fact that these movies were all terrible failures as movies, that did not stop some of them from being successful at the box office. Terrible movies are a part of movie culture and some are so bad that they have to be viewed and laughed at regardless of whether they are actually meant to be comedies or not.

Connor R. Sullivan has often purchased promotional merchandise to give to his new clients. He orders corporate gifts every year to give to his employees at Christmas.
