The Website Build it and They Will Come Myth

People who are beginning to build their own website or internet based business often believe that if they simply have a web site then people will find them and business will begin coming in effortlessly. I have built and maintained websites for my own business and I can verify that just because a website exists does not mean that people will visit it.

There are ways to get your site to function at bringing business. However none of that matters till you get get visitors to your site. Having your site rank well on search engines is a big challenge. If your website can not be located easily it is not likely to get many visitors. Having a website that can not be found is like opening a store in the desert where there are no roads leading to your location.

Some website designers will focus on the appearance of the website and not much else. Just having a website that your mom or grandmother likes does not mean that it will be effective in bringing in business. Besides mom is not likely to criticize your work too much anyway. Images do not necessarily result in search engine location. Images are not typically seen by the search engines, so focus on content such as text.

Having links on other sites that lead to your site is very valuable. The more links pointing toward you the better. It also matters that the site that has the link is related to the topic which your site covers.

Having articles published on the internet that have links built in the article that lead to your site can be very helpful. One benefit of article writing is that the articles can be published by other websites therefore increasing the number of link pointing towards you. Articles also have 'legs" By this is meant that an article once written and published will remain visible for long periods of time. I have articles that pop up in search engines that I wrote well over four years ago. Article writing takes some skill so as to correctly do key words and anchor text. If you are unsure how or lack the time to do it yourself you can hire an article writer to write a few articles for you. Typically 5-10 articles are ordered at a time and is worth the small cost. The amount of time you will save is a nice bonus in addition to the increase in search engine ranking.
