The Untapped Potential of Geothermal Power As Alternate Energy
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Though we might all know that there is immense amount of energy lying dormant under the surface of the earth, we do not seem to have made much progress in the field of geothermal energy development. It is time that we tapped this huge storehouse of natural power lying underneath the surface of this world as it could be a viable source of alternate energy.

Did you know that the temperature at the core of the earth is nearly 60 times more than boiling point of water? The pressure created by this heat is visible to us in the form of magma, a kind of hyper-heated fluid, erupting at volcanoes. At times this heat is also let out in the form of steam, through vents on the surface of the earth. This heat energy can be converted to electricity to light up or heat our homes. We could dig vents on the earth's surface and then contain the heat energy from the steam or magma and then use it to our convenience. What does it take to build a geothermal energy plant? We need to dig a hole on the face of the earth, which has the potential to have magma or heated fluid underneath. Then pipes could be inserted to bring out the steam and heat energy on the surface of the earth. Then the steam could be used to drive a turbine engine, which in turn would produce electricity.

Geothermal energy has been considered to be one of the most viable sources of alternate energy which can be created to reduce our complete dependence on petroleum-driven energy. Unfortunately this huge potential, which lay within our easy reach waits to be tapped and made use of.
