The Ultimate "Hot Button" for Human Beings

The ultimate hot button of a human being

A hot button is something that will cause great excitement - it could be anything from talking about someone's dream car or talking about buying a new house in an affluent area.

But there is one thing that most people would know as the ultimate hot button of every human being.

That would be a person's name.

A person's name is probably the sweetest sound in their ears. People own it and they cherish it. They have a fetish for getting the spelling of their name right. Try spelling it wrong and you will watch them tick with irritation or worse, send you a lawyer's letter!

In any social gathering, remembering a person's name requires a bit of skill and it would be very difficult for people who are not observant or forgetful. Make no mistake about it. The fastest way to get someone to like you is to remember their name and the pronunciation of that name - because it is the sweetest sound in their ear!

So how far does one have to go to remember a person's name? I would say, very far...

When talking to a stranger and they introduce themselves, ask them to repeat their name, followed by YOU pronouncing it back to them and asking them for verification until you get it right. Say it at least 3 times so you will NOT forget someone's name. (Forgetting a person's name might not hurt some people as much but if you make an effort to remember a person's name especially when it is very hard to pronounce, they will think really highly of you!)

Here is one thing you can do - ask them to spell the name so that you will remember it clearly. When you spell out the name, chances are you will be able to remember it and you can pronounce the name properly.

Try and relate the name with something easy to remember. For example, if a person's name is Pierce and you see him wearing many earrings, you can easily remember his name if you relate the name Pierce to his ear piercing. The key is to use associations which works very well with the human mind.

If possible, try and relate that person's name to a relative or a friend and watch their faces light up. (If you don't have a friend or a relative, you might try lying if you are up to it...) Just tell them, "Hey, I have a cousin with the same name or my best friend is called Joseph as well!"

These are just a few techniques that you can use but ultimately, it is worth the effort.
