The Twilight Zone - The American TV Series

Expert Author Pollux Parker

The Twilight Zone was an American television series (and later became a movie) that was created and narrated by Rod Sterling. It is composed of 156 episodes that focused on science, fantasy, horror, fiction, and suspense, often ending in an unexpected twist. It was a very popular television series that made Americans recognized abstract ideas and serious science fiction.

The "twilight zone" is the term used to refer to gray area. The series' creator Sterling chose the title "The Twilight Zone" himself without knowing that the US Air Force used the same term to refer to terminator, which is the boarder on a planetary body between night and day.

The TV series included leading science fiction writers at that time such as Charles Beaumont, Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, Harlan Ellison, and Richard Matheson. Other writers who were involved with the production of this TV series were Ambrose Bierce, Damon Knight, Jerome Bixby, and Lewis Padgett. It also featured various Hollywood actors like Robert Duvall, William Shatner, Robert Redford, Burgess Meredith, and Charles Bronson.

The original Twilight zone premiered on October 2, 1959 and lasted for five years, until 1964. Then, it was revived from 1985 - 1988. It was then revived in 2002 by United Paramount Network (UPN). The 2002 revival featured Hollywood actor Forest Whitaker as the narrator and host. However, the second revival only stayed for one season.

This TV series was also made as a movie in 1983 titled "Twilight Zone: The Movie." Said film featured four episodes, of which three were remakes of this TV series classical episodes and one was an original story.
