If you want to hit a the driver long and straight every time, then you need to avoid the basic mistakes that drain power from your swing and cause you to hit it shorter and off line. Which of these 5 mistakes do you make?
Driver Mistake #5) Teeing the Ball Too High- Make sure you tee the ball correctly in order to hit the ball in the sweet spot every time. You want to tee up the ball with about 2/3rds of the ball above the club face when you put the club down next to it.
Driver Mistake #4) Swinging From Outside to In- This is very common for former baseball players to swing in a way that cuts across the ball. You want to swing on the correct swing plane that allows you to swing with an inside to out swing path for maximum power.
Driver Mistake $3) Using the Driver When We Don't Need It!- We are all guilty of this some time or another. We'll pull out the driver and take a big rip at it when the golf hole doesn't even set up for a driver! Take your time and remember the lowest score is what we are after. Miracle shots rarely happen. Smart shots are better.
Driver Mistake #2) Gripping the Driver Incorrectly- Gripping the driver with a grip that's too strong can cause you to hit low duck-hooks. Gripping with a weak grip can cause a big slice or a weak high shot to the right. Grip the driver with a neutral grip and you'll have a better chance of hitting it solid.
Driver Mistake #1) Not Transferring Weight- In order to hit the ball with the most power and proper direction, we need to have proper weight transfer. On the backswing we need the weight to be on our right foot. On the follow through, weight needs to have been shifted all the way to the left foot. Hanging back on our right foot will cause off line shots with no power at all.
Avoid those driver mistakes and you'll be hitting it straighter and more solid every time.
