The Top 3 Points That Make Or Break Good RPG PC Games

We gamers take pride in differentiating and judging good games from bad ones. But what makes a game so good that you want to play it for hours on end while the time flies by and you can't let go of it unless you have beaten its challenges? While that might be different for all kinds of game genres it usually boils down to 3 major points when it comes to RPG PC Games.

Apart from an enticing story and a good game balance which every game needs, an RPG (Role Playing Game) has some additional requirements that makes it worthy of that genre:

  1. First of all, the player has to have free choice in character creation. In a good RPG you usually get to create your character however you like it. You can choose the gender, looks, maybe the race in a fantasy game, skills, abilities, and in pure RPG games even the character's background story. In fact, the choice of the character's history is often the area where real RPGs differ from hybrid games that put RPG elements into other game genres, the most popular being Action RPGs.
  2. After the character creation the next important part is free choice of character development. That is the most fun part of the game. You get to control the character of the game and are free to develop him or her however you like. You can put their skills in a variety of topics (the infamous Jack of all trades) or make them a specialist with a few skills really maxed out. You can have them do heroic deeds or make them an evil tyrant. Not only should it be up to you but also should your choices have a direct impact upon the development of the character and the world around him or her.
  3. Thirdly, there is free choice of interaction and dialog. You might haven noticed this is kind of similar to the prior point but it is worth emphasizing that not only the choice should be between acting good or bad, black or white, and what skills you have to influence the world but also the many shades of gray in between. A believable world with NPCs (Non-Player-Characters) that react appropriately to your actions is the key to real depth of the game.

That is what it all boils down to in a good RPG: A believable game with depth that can make you "suspend your disbelief" and allows you to immerse yourself in the gaming world.

After that it is about freedom of choice and a strong focus towards the player's character and his or her interaction with the world. The less streamlined the adventure and the more freedom the player has, the better the RPG PC Games [http://rpgpcgamesblog.com/rpg-pc-games/rpg-pc-games-and-their-variations-what-are-they].
