The Three Forum Marketing Questions That You Must Have an Answer To

Expert Author Thom Lancaster

When you are deciding whether forum marketing the right path for your online career to take, you need to make sure that you have any answers. There are certain questions that come up again and again in every campaign about this. If you want to make a success out of forum marketing, you must have answers to each and every one of the three questions in this article. If not, your forum marketing plans are simply destined to fail.

Question 1: What are you trying to promote?

This should be an easy question, but often people drop at this first hurdle. Make sure you are very clear in your mind what you are trying to promote. Is this one of your own products? Is this one of your own sites? Is this an affiliate product? Is this a service? Then, spend some time working out what type of forums people would be visiting who are interested in this type of product or service. You can immediately visit these forums and choose the ones that look best suited to your needs.

Question 2: Why are you marketing through forums?

This is a question that most people just don't try to answer. Forum marketing is great for many things, not least because it's a free form of advertising that can be used to grow a long term business. But, it's definitely not the best marketing method for every single product. Take careful thought whether this is the best one for your product. If, for instance, there are very few forums related to the niche you are in, you may need to look elsewhere.

Question 3: Do the forum rules allow for this style of marketing?

This question should be simple to answer. You'll need to find the official forum rules, which are usually at the very top of each forum. Read through them carefully. Do they allow you to put affiliate links in your posts or in your signature? Are they keen to encourage advertising, or is it clearly discouraged? If advertising is allowable, is there a cost involved? If so, are you willing to pay it? Just be very sure that the rules of the forum you've chosen allow for advertising so that you don't make a mistake.

By answering these three questions you are going to be setting yourself up for success in forum marketing. Just make sure that you are sure what you are trying to promote, why you are promoting it through forums, and that the forum you have selected allows for this type of marketing. By taking all these factors into account you are ensuring that the groundwork you are setting is not in vain.
