Also known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome, the polycystic ovarian syndrome is a hormonal deficiency that causes a lot of women to have different symptoms. It is considered an endocrine disorder that is affecting more or less 5% of all women. It happens to all reaces and nationalities, and PCOS syndrome is the most leading cause of infertility and widespread hormonal disorder for women in childbearing age.

The symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome are obesity, anovulation which eventually will lead to irregular menstruation, acne, and excessive amounts or effects of androgenic or masculinizing hormones. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary from woman to woman. PCOS syndome causes are quite unknown except for obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance associated with PCOS syndrome.

Other established causes of PCOS syndrome are high blood pressure, unusual hair growth and distribution, dandruff, high cholesterol levels, and skin discoloration. Many of these symptoms may not be present but women with PCOS will always have irregular menstruation periods or don't undergo it at all.Since these women don't ovulate regularly and don't produce egg cells each month, that often leads to irregularities in the menstruation cycle.

There is no certain cause of this disorder but it's found out that women who have this kind of disorder have a mother and sister with PCOS but even so it's not enough to say that it's hereditary.Usually there are many small cysts found in the ovaries of women with PCOS, a reason for it to be called polycystic ovarian syndrome. You can find comparable number of cysts in women who don't have PCOS. Hence, the cysts themselves do not make up the cause of this predicament. Frequently there is a breakdown of the body's blood sugar control system or insulin system in women with PCOS; as a result, researchers believe that these irregularities may be interrelated to the development of PCOS. Women who suffer from PCOS have ovaries that are popular for producing excessive amounts of male hormones called androgen.Too much male hormonal production may be the result of having irregular insulin production.
