The Real Truth Behind a Binary Compensation Plan

Expert Author Mark Manderville

The Binary Compensation Plan is best known in the network marketing in industry and it is as its name suggests, TWO... two legs that is. This plan represents the number of front associates that your personal business can have. All other distributors or associates at this point are placed under those main front line members and it will continue down as long as you are building your business. The binary essentially supports a very team oriented environment which helps in the success of the team as a whole which tends to make this type of compensation plan attractive due to its support system.

There are a few objectives within a binary that I think are important to understand. The first is the main earning objective of the binary. The objective is to really balance the amount of leg volume (number or sales or distributors) flowing through either leg of the binary. When this compensation plan first developed back in the 80's, additional volume on the stronger leg would be lost making it difficult for part time people. Most binary plans today though allow additional volume to be carried over to the following commission period. This "carry over" feature has proven to be very popular for part-time folks as it means that you don't ever lose any of the sales volume that you have acquired. A lot of binary plans also incorporate coded bonuses to make them much more attractive when first getting your business using this type of model off the ground.

Because the goal is to balance the volume flowing through your business, it is smart to help your weaker partners to build their business. This promotes both teamwork to achieve a better volume balance and much more consistent commissions.

Another point is because a binary compensation plan can build quickly, there are usually no depth restrictions to its structure. The differences between different binary structures is usually within the team itself and how strong they are and the product line. If there was no incentive to help those under you, this model would fail.

There have been studies in the MLM industry that have shown that the average network marketing distributor sponsors between 2-3 new distributors into their business. Overall meaning that it would be hard for the "average MLM'er" to find any success is this industry. And let's be honest, distributors come into network marketing to earn money, not lose it. Some of the older compensation models require distributors to recruit at least 6 or more frontline distributors to see a return. These older plans started to give the industry a bad name as no one except the full timers and the truly gifted were making any sort of money. The binary has fixed and modified this to help even a struggling network marketer make some money even if a small amount if efforts are being made.

The binary compensation plan was built in order to give everyone a fair shot. Whether part time or full time in this industry. This allows even the weaker network marketer to have a shot at his or her dream. Additionally the binary compensation plan was put in place so that if a new recruit is really struggling to build their downline, it is in the best interest of their upline to give you as much help as they can.

All in all, this is an easy and effective method to earn money as a distributor. To choose a Binary Compensation Plan that best fits your needs, it is important to look further than just the plan itself. You need to consider the best tools to use to earn customer business or to add distributors, as well as the actual team members and the timing in the company. When this plan is combined with the supportive teamwork that is generally found within companies using this compensation model, there usually is no doubt about the effectiveness of the Binary Compensation Plan.
