Have you ever heard someone say; "It's Fate!" as if free will didn't matter, and yet, that certainly wouldn't be a world I'd care to participate in. You see, I am not an organic robot, I am free, and will enjoy my life experience on my own terms. Still, one only has to look at the "Game of Life" to stop and think about how solid a concept free will is.
Not long ago, I met one of the programmers to one of the offshoot games of life, who set it up for the computer generation, and I told him that "liked the game of life concept," and asked him if he was familiar with any of Stephen Wolfram's work, certainly he would be, but I wanted to know what his thoughts were on all that? You know, Matematica and New Type of Science stuff?
In the Game of Life, can a player join in, and create several types of "life" octagonal different groups with 2-3 neighbors and launch it into the game? Competing within let's say a confined space? It appears that with a shape like an octagon eventually there will be combinations, equilibriums for a period, some for a lot longer and the game could last forever, but depending on the number of types of (let's say different color combos) could also end eventually. Is that basically what happens?
And, can one predict it all in advance, which is a mind screw for those who philosophize on "Fate" and such notions. You see, I've always believed that in the future games will create themselves as the player plays, thus, their will most likely never be two games played exactly the same, now that would really be the "Game of Life" don't you think? This could easily be done based on the types of players, personal avatars, choices each gamer makes along the way.
The concept of using philosophy to problem solve, make decisions is indeed worthy, but can at times be limiting too in real life, as you can get easily caught up in paradoxes, and circular arguments which impede your forward progress. Please consider these philosophical thoughts at your earliest convenience.
